Speaking in Tongues.
1Corinthians 2 and 1 Corinthians 14 are devoted to the understanding of this awesome gift from God,
"and there came a sound from Heaven as a rushing mighty wind and there appeared unto them tongues of fire ...
and they were ALL filled with the Holy Spirit and began to Speak in tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance" Acts2:4
The gift is for every believer. 'they were ALL filled' God is no respecter of persons.
The apostle Paul said "I would that you ALL speak in tongues"

Our desire is to see the power of God restored to the Church and to see God's people walk in it, as did the early Church. The Book of Acts and the pouring out of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost is the key to this. |

"I thank my God I speak in tongues more than all" 1Cor 14:18
There was a really good reason why the apostle Paul made this statement! It was the means by which God revealed the many things of God to his heart.. that later became the Epistles as we know them. The things of God are revealed to the heart of man by the Holy Spirit.
Jesus said, "God is a Spirit and they that worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and in Truth" God and the things of God are ONLY revealed.. Jesus said "No man knows the Father except the Son reveal Him"
Jesus commanded His disciples not to depart from Jerusalem until they had receive power from on High. Jesus Himself never did anything until He was baptised with the Holy Spirit..
After receiving the Holy Spirit, the first thing that happened was that all 'spoke in tongues' A supernatural language was imparted to their spirits by the Holy Spirit. For the first tiime ever, the spirit of man had a voice
whereby he could talk to God directly.. in the Spirit.
It is through this language that the things of God are taught us. It is how Paul received the Gospel. 'The Gospel I received, I was not taught by man, neither received it from man but by revelation of Jesus Christ"
This gift was so important to the early church that everywhere they went, they spoke of it and encouraged the believers to receive it.
The Lord told me this the other day:
"The baptism of the Spirit is not an experience but the receiving of a Divine personality"
"He that speaks in an unknown tongue, speaks not unto men but unto God, for in the Spirit, he speaks mysteries" (deep things) 1 Corinthians 14:2
"and when the disciples which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the Word of God, they sent unto then Peter and John, who when they were come down, prayed for them that
they might receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.... Then laid they there hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit" Acts8:14-17
"and whilst peter was preaching, the Holy Spirit fell on all them that heard the Word and they spoke in tongues and glorified God" Acts:10:34-48
"and Paul having passed through through the upper coats and finding many disciples, said to them, 'Have you received the Holy Spirit since you believed?..
and Paul laid his hands on them and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied" Acts 19:2 -6
The loss of this gift is a major reason why the church has lot a lot of her power! Jesus commanded the disciples not to go anywhere until they had received power (Greek: 'dunamis' - miracle working power)
Jesus was baptised with the Spirit and had the most awesome ministry the world has ever seen.
The early Church was baptised with the Spirit and 'turned the world upside down'
We need Him too.
This gift is for all that will receive Him
God Bless
John
